Airsource heat pump case study

Air source heat pump

We live in an off gas area of Dunbar. Previously we heated our home with electric storage heaters which are not very flexibly way to heat a family home. We decided to install our air source heat pump over a year ago with the help of a BeGreen renewables grant.

The air source heat system is more flexible and cost effective to run. Our total energy bill is now just £17 a month to heat our 2 bed roomed house.  We have a 10 hour cheap electricity rate over 3 periods in any 24 hours. Only twice when it was below -10C did we have to use supplementary heating. This is quite rare however.

BeGreen helped enormously not just with funding, which was a great incentive, but also helped with acquiring other sources of funding and recommendations for our insulation needs. Altogether a very helpful service without which I probably would not have gone ahead with our heat pump!

If you are thinking about installing an air source heat pump I cannot emphasise enough to anyone to insulate your home first. This will help retain the heat in your home longer and help keep your energy bills down”.

What’s the noise from it like?

Its like the compressor on a fridge. Some people are more sensitive to the noise and vibration than others. I am sure you could visit to check.
